Michael Lupton Associates (MLA) has been in business for over 24 years.
After 18 years as a Police Officer, Michael Lupton started the company in 1993. He was initially based at home, using some old stables as his office.
Michael has a deep understanding of the importance of protective equipment that is in use on the front line. This allowed him to work directly with Police forces to design and produce high quality, rigorously tested protective clothing and equipment that is, perhaps even more so today, really needed.
MLA grew to employ 5 staff by the turn of the century and growth continued when the production of their Defender helmet was brought in-house. Staffing then doubled once the helmet production moved to larger premises in Market Weighton in early 2016.
The product development team has also increased to include product designers and a professional contracts sourcing & supply manager.
Thanks to a Textile Regional Growth Fund Grant, in May 2016 MLA completed the installation of a leather and canvas workshop, fully equipped with state-of-the-art industrial machines and further additional staff. This team liaises closely with MLA’s inhouse designers which means MLA can now offer bespoke products for specialist applications and work with end users to provide exactly what they require.
MLA takes great pride in the fact that 90% of what they sell is ‘Made in Britain’.
All products meet the necessary Home Office Certification and close contact with various test houses is maintained to ensure that they are ahead of emerging standards.
A new ‘Merlin’ helmet will soon be put into production, which will hopefully lead to the creation of further jobs at MLA’s rural facility.
By onshoring MLA has recognised the need to diversify their offering and increase their production capacity. This is also allowing them to venture into new markets and they will be targeting further export growth in the future.
