First Public Showing of New Public Order Helmet

Tues 7th March, Farnborough – Michael Lupton Associates Ltd (MLA) are proud to unveil a new and improved public order helmet at the 2017 Home Office Security and Policing Event taking place at the Farnborough International Exhibition and Conference Centre.

The new helmet is the result of a working group involving four organisations coming together over a three year period to develop a product that provides an improved level of head protection and comfort built to the PSDB Protective Headwear Standard for UK Police (2004).

“Merlin”, the prototype name for the project, was recently awarded an international patent.

New features include:

  • An improved visor seal
  • Improved provision for communications
  • Head cooling & breathability improvements
  • A better flammable liquid roll off
  • A lighter weight design

Michael Lupton, MLA Managing Director, said; “We brought the assembly and construction of the ‘Defender’ public order helmet in-house in 2014 and I’m excited that we’re now adding to our range.”

“We’ve always concentrated on quality and performance in the field. I’m confident that our newly designed ‘Merlin’ helmet, coupled with our choice of materials and construction balances the robust with the practical and comfortable.”

The new ‘Merlin’ helmet will soon be put into production at MLA’s helmet assembly plant in Seaton Ross, Yorkshire.
